| Aliy Zirkle, Allen Moore and Kaz Zirkle, as Natural Extremes run Spring Dog Mushing trips into the remote North Slope of Alaska. These packages brings you into the beautiful and hotly debated Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) on a completely dog powered adventure.
The Refuge, currently a very hot topic in Washington D.C., permits NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES (including snow mobiles). This means NO noise except the pattering of dog feet. This also means that this trip will be a true adventure. The basic route leaves Galbraith via the Atigun River, crosses under the Oil Pipeline and heads east through the Atigun Gorge. At the mouth of the Atigun River, we move on to the Sag River that weaves through the Brooks Mountain Range (the northern Continental Divide). Wildlife such as moose, caribou, sheep, wolves and ptarmigan are the residents of this area. Few places have remained so untouched! We recommend each client be reasonably fit and enjoy the rugged outdoors. The temperatures range from 20 above during the day to -30 during the night. This time of year, the daylight hours are extensive with close to 20 hours of light. Incredible Northern Lights are often visible during the shortened night. 2009 ANWR Mushing Adventures Trip #1 3/30 - 4/5/09 FULL If you are interested in a North Slope Dog Mushing Adventure, please contact us at aliyz@naturalextremes.
